11 Questions with Karla Ruiz Cofiño

  • July 1st 2015

Karla Ruiz Cofiño is a Guatemalan technology entrepreneur and co-founder of MILKnCOOKIES, an award-winning digital agency in Guatemala City.

Who inspired you growing up?

Definitely my parents.

What are you optimistic about?

The bad news is that we — as humans — have done a lot of damage to our environment and society. The good news is that there is tons of room for improvement, and thanks to technology everybody have access to information, so today we can take informed and conscious decisions to build a sustainable society!

What gets your heart pumping?

Watching people using technology to work together, shaping the future as a collective Intelligence!

What is the best book you’ve read in the last year?

Smarter Than You Think: How Technology Is Changing Our Minds for the Better by Clive Thompson

Are you excited to see anyone in particular speak at Aspen Ideas?

I'm looking forward to attend the events around the topic Will Technology Save Us?

What kind of projects do you find most rewarding?

Projects where I can share information! I believe that sharing knowledge and experiences is a very powerful way of contributing for a better world, and I am personally committed to that cause! When we share knowledge, others can take that information as a seed and make it grow into amazing things. Offer information of value to others, make it viral, connect the dots and be amazed by the results.

What’s the smartest idea you’ve heard all year?

www.internet.org

What current issue in the world concerns you the most right now?

The corruption of politicians in Latin America....

What technology could you not live without?

Internet!

Big or Small--How do you try to make an impact on the environment?

In Guatemala I'm the co-founder of MILKnCOOKIES, a digital agency that believes that through technology and a connected society, we can create a real and positive impact in our lives and in the lives of those around us. We create projects like www.mini-mundi.com, digital platform that teaches kids how to take care of our planet while playing. We have been recognized as one of the "top 5 leaders in E-Entertainment" by the World Summit Award organised by the UN, and also named as 1 of the 8 "Global Champions" awarded by the World Summit on the Information Society during the 10 year review in UNESCO. Both are awards for "building knowledge societies for peace and sustainable development".

What’s your favorite bottle of wine?

The one that I get to drink with dear friends!!
