Setup
Patient-centered care is defined by the National Academy of Medicine as “providing care that respects and responds to individual patient preferences, needs and values, and ensures that patient values guide all clinical decisions.” Designed to place patients at the heart of the system, the approach is built around well-coordinated, quality care, including physical comfort and emotional support, and emphasizes patient needs and the involvement of loved ones.
