Brian Brown

Director, Icahn Genomics Institute; Associate Director, Precision Immunology Institute; Professor, Genetics and Genomic Sciences, Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai Health System

Brian Brown is director of the Icahn Genomics Institute, associate director of the Lipshultz Precision Immunology Institute, and professor of genetics and genomic sciences and of dermatology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. An expert in genetic engineering and gene therapy, immunology, biotechnology, and genomics, Brown was one of the first to describe how the innate immune system responds to gene therapy. He invented a new form of targeting expression of RNA, DNA, and viral therapeutics, a technology used in therapies undergoing human clinical trials for treatment of different cancers. Brown is inventor of important genomics technologies and has made high-impact scientific discoveries, particularly in immunology, that include some of the mechanisms that control how the immune system develops, functions, and controls tumor growth.
