Carmen Maria Machado is an author, essayist, and critic. Among many others, she’s the author of the best-selling memoir In the Dream House and the award-winning short story collection Her Body and Other Parties. Machado’s work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Granta, Vogue, Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy, Best American Nonrequired Reading, and elsewhere. A finalist for the National Book Award, she won the Bard Fiction Prize, the Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Fiction, the Lambda Literary Award for LGBTQ Nonfiction, the Brooklyn Public Library Literature Prize, the Shirley Jackson Award, and the National Book Critics Circle’s John Leonard Prize. Her fellowships and residencies include the Guggenheim Foundation and Millay Colony for the Arts.
