Jay Van Bavel is an associate professor of psychology and neural science at New York University, where he’s affiliated with the Stern School of Business Management and Organizations Department and directs the Social Identity and Morality Lab. His research examines how collective concerns shape the mind, brain, and behavior, and his work addresses issues of group identity, social motivation, cooperation, implicit bias, moral judgment, decision-making, and social media. Van Bavel co-authored The Power of Us: Harnessing Our Shared Identities to Improve Performance, Increase Cooperation, and Promote Social Harmony. He has written about his research for several consumer publications, and his work has appeared in numerous academic papers as well as matters before the US Supreme Court and US Senate.
