Nancy Cantor is chancellor of Rutgers University in Newark. A social psychologist, she is a champion for inclusion and advocate for re-emphasizing the role universities play as anchor institutions in their communities, collaborating with cross-sector partners to fulfill higher education’s public mission as an engine of discovery, innovation, and social mobility. Cantor previously led Syracuse University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and was provost at the University of Michigan, where she was closely involved in defending affirmative action in the 2003 US Supreme Court cases Grutter and Gratz.She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and member of the National Academy of Medicine.
