Sarkis Mazmanian

Sarkis Mazmanian is the Luis & Nelly Soux Professor of Microbiology at the California Institute of Technology and an investigator for Heritage Medical Research Institute. His laboratory researches the human gut microbiome as a source of novel therapies for immunologic and neurologic disorders. Mazmanian founded two biotech companies and has served or currently serves on over a dozen scientific advisory boards. Prior to joining Caltech in 2006, he was appointed assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and earned his PhD in microbiology and immunology at UCLA. Mazmanian has won numerous honors, including a 2012 MacArthur grant and being named one of the Best Brains in Science Under 40 by Discover Magazine.
