Mia McLeod

Mia S. McLeod is a senator in the South Carolina legislature. An attorney, McLeod has worked in and through state government, advocating for health care and education equity, jobs and workforce development, Medicaid expansion, pro-business and pro-worker initiatives, tougher domestic violence laws, common sense gun reforms, marijuana legalization and decriminalization, better race relations, equity and inclusion, racial and socio-economic justice, and comprehensive systemic reforms. An eighth generation South Carolinian, McLeod is the first woman and African American to represent Senate District 22 (Richland and Kershaw Counties) and serves on the Judiciary, Medical Affairs, Rules, Corrections and Penology, and Family and Veterans Services Committees. She recently was the first black woman to run for governor of South Carolina.
